About

Sust3DFashion is a 24-month partnership aimed at enhancing innovation in the textile and fashion manufacturing sector through collaboration with the technology and digital sectors, particularly focusing on 3D printing.

The project aligns with EU policies promoting circular economy and environmental sustainability in textile manufacturing. The European Commission has emphasized the importance of promoting circularity in textiles, aiming for durable, recyclable products by 2030. Sust3DFashion seeks to support these goals by equipping experts in the textile and fashion industry with competencies in innovative production methods, specifically integrating digital innovation and circularity through 3D design and printing.

Research indicates that 3D printing can significantly contribute to circularity and sustainability by enabling the reuse and recycling of materials. Moreover, the project aims to digitalize the traditional textile and fashion sector, fostering the transition to Industry 4.0 and aligning industry needs with those of the labour market. This is particularly relevant in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has highlighted the vulnerabilities of the European manufacturing industry. Digital technologies, including 3D printing, are seen as crucial for revitalizing local manufacturing SMEs.

As part of its efforts, Sust3DFashion will develop innovative learning materials in the form of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) to train Vocational Education and Training (VET) learners in the textile and fashion industry in the principles and applications of 3D design and printing. This initiative aims to empower individuals within the sector to apply these technologies effectively, thus contributing to the realization of EU policies for sustainable and circular textiles.
